The Transporter (Le Transporteur in French) is a 2002 action thriller film directed by Cory Yuen, based on a screenplay by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. This is the first film in the Transporter series, which stars Jason Statham as Frank Martin, alongside Shu Qi, François Berléand, Matt Schulze, and Ric Young.
The story revolves around Frank Martin, a British driver living in France who accidentally gets involved in a dangerous human trafficking scheme. The film is inspired by the short film series The Hire, featuring dramatic chases and eye-catching action scenes.
The Transporter had its world premiere at the Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles on October 2, 2002, before being officially released in the United States on October 11 by 20th Century Fox and in France on October 23 by EuropaCorp. The film received mixed reviews: praised for its impressive action sequences, but criticized for its plot. Nevertheless, The Transporter grossed $43.9 million worldwide and paved the way for a sequel, Transporter 2 (2005).
